I DWELL in a lonely house I know
That vanished many a summer ago,
And left no trace but the cellar walls,
And a cellar in which the daylight falls,
And the purple-stemmed wild raspberries grow.

O'er ruined fences the grape-vines shield
The woods come back to the mowing field;
The orchard tree has grown one copse
Of new wood and old where the woodpecker chops;
The footpath down to the well is healed.

I dwell with a strangely aching heart
In that vanished abode there far apart
On that disused and forgotten road
That has no dust-bath now for the toad.
Night comes; the black bats tumble and dart;

The whippoorwill is coming to shout
And hush and cluck and flutter about:
I hear him begin far enough away
Full many a time to say his say
Before he arrives to say it out.

It is under the small, dim, summer star.
I know not who these mute folk are
Who share the unlit place with me--
Those stones out under the low-limbed tree
Doubtless bear names that the mosses mar.

They are tireless folk, but slow and sad,
Though two, close-keeping, are lass and lad,--
With none among them that ever sings,
And yet, in view of how many things,
As sweet companions as might be had.

It seems like whoever wrote this poem is very lonely and focuses on what is happening around the author. Them poem was very sensory in the way that it described the area around the person speaking.

I feel like this poem is somewhat of a dark and cold poem. It has a sense of loneliness. This poem also describes the setting and where it is at in very good detail.

-I would title the poem Dweller r something like that.
-I pictured the guy who wrote it as a homeless guy living in an abandoned house.
-I think it means something like: Nothing is ever forgotten. or something along those lines.

Perhaps the title of the poem might be Dwelling, it is in all caps in the very first line. Or Happy Place. I don't know who might have wrote it. I'm not familiar with poets. Robert Frost? I'm just guessing here. I think it was about a house that is no longer the previous owners. Old, happy memories are shared about it. It speaks of the new owners and how they're strangers.

I think the title may be Summer Home. I feel that they just explain there home over the summer so I feel that is the best title. I'm not really sure who wrote the story. I'm not familiar with poetry. I feel the poem is stating that they sped the summer day alone missing or wanting a friend or companion.

I found this poem extremely descriptive and sad. I didn't really get what the poet was trying to tell But I can tell its a good poem.

The title may be - Alone. A English teacher has wrote it or a student. Why? To tell some of the readers how they feel and what the see dead inside them, they also express their feeling in their writing. It means that the writer is alone he is trapped inside his/her house.

The poem should be called something like The Forgotten, what i understood was this person who's checking out a forgotten place and describing it. I think the person who wrote it i don't know

I think the title might be "A Summer House." After researching the poem, I found out it is called "Ghost House" and it was written by Robert Frost. I think the poem talks about a haunted house. ê¿ê

I can't quite remember the title of this poem, but I know that the author is Robert Frost. Although reading it makes you feel very alone and fragile, it is actually supposed to be quite optimistic. It is about a ghost who is at peace with his death. I think Frost might have been telling the world and everyone in it that even though dying is a frightful thought, it may not be as bad as we make it out to be.

First of all the poem was great. What I think this poem might be titled is or has to do something with Companion. I don't really don't know who wrote this poem. This poem is about a lonely person, that talks about everything around him.

I have a feeling that this person is lonely, maybe the only person in the town. He talks about how he used to live in a house that sounds like a farm. I think this because he mentions grape vines, fields and an orchard tree. I have a feeling it may be Robert Frost even though I've only read a few poems of his. The house sounds like it's destroyed because he says only the cellar walls are left. He also mentions that no one is talking to him. Is he in a graveyard? Because he says they're mute. The title might be called I Dwell.

The author that wrote this sets a dark and cold mood for the reader. The poem talks about being alone and sad. To me the guy or girl must of had a rough past that he or she cant forget.

I think that whoever wrote the poem is very lonely. It focuses more on whats happen around the author. It has a lot of good details.

I think the poem might be named "I Dwell." At least that is what i would title it. The person who wrote it is probably a lonely person and lives or dwells in an old, worn in place. I think the poem means that after time passes, and loved ones pass they are still good companions in spirit.

The poem seems like its sad and dark. It described the setting really well. The poem should be title with someting to do with darkness.

Uh... Whoever wrote this seemed like they were in some sort of depression. I'm not sure what message the writer was trying to convey but it seemed like they were talking about loneliness or being solitary.

This was a very deep poem. The title should be "I dwell", since it was capitalized in the first sentence. It sounds like the author has a lot of pain of what used to be in that house and doesn't let go of the memories, he sounds lonely. The author was probably the owner of the house.

This poem seems like the person is very lonely. There's no one he knows, nothing in sight. The place is dark. Things are forgotten or just not cared for.

I like the poem but I really did not understand it. This is a really sad poem to read and I think it was because that person was alone.

This man in the poem is very lonely, and he is expressing his feelings as hid surroundings. He ends by saying that if he tried he could of had what he wanted in the beginning.

Shows a deep depression in this persons mind. Shows how they think and their environment with detail to express their loneliness and hope for company.

I'm not going to lie, I looked up the first stanza of the poem on Google. It is Ghost House by Robert Frost. The poem near the end is talking about two people, or ghosts, old and tireless although together always, in close keeping. Maybe it's a love poem?

Unknown said...

In this poem a lot of thing happen. There could be many ways this can go one of the things i noticed is that it does have a very distinct sense of sorrow. This poem is made by a girl because the sense of sorrow to me does make me think it is more feminine. The title of this poem should be I DWELL.

Unknown said...

This poem in my opinion shows a mixture of emotions some seem to be depression and forgetting but the love is there and the memories will never die it seems

Unknown said...

The name of the book should be "loner". Written by Robert Frost. I think that they express how they feel in that moment. They feel sad.

I think this poem is about someone that is missing something. So they are talking about what they use to dwell on. The authors tone sounds kind of sad and down which makes me feel like they really miss what they were talking about. But in the end i really don't get the poem.

Unknown said...

The title of the poem is Ghost House. The author of this poem is Robert Frost. It means that a lonely person is sad.

Ismael said...

I think that the author was sad when he was writing this poem.

Unknown said...

I feel like the author thinks very highly of all the little details. The author focuses very hard on nature and about the morbidity of his immediate surroundings and how life plays out. He does this in a conflicting way through his beautiful description of nature.

Unknown said...

I feel that this character/author is lonely and needs friend.Everything is going down for him.

Unknown said...

I think the title of this poem should be "The dweller" because it seems like if the author has no one around him to talk to. I, also, think the author of the poem is a very lonely person. I think the author wrote it because he/she is trying to call someone so they wouldn't be lonely anymore.

Unknown said...

I think the poem is more than what it seems. At first it sounds like to me that there's this person who's enjoying a beautiful day, but this person is down, and alone. Later night falls, and the person sees these people who look like they've been through a lot, and don't have it as well he does. Eventually at the end this person realize that everything he has is good, even though he's alone.

I Think the person whoever wrote this poem was sad and he wanted to write about it. Its a really good poem, he has a aching heart and he decides to share it in a poem.

He feels worthless.

I think this is a poem about loneliness. I think it shows us how it could be after a war. when everybody is gone or just when somebody who you care about left.

Alright well I would tittle this poem "DWELL". This guy who wrote this must of had a whole bunch of problems and a messed up life. It seem as if he was holding a grudge about something and writing the poem is just a way to express himself. y'know
