EAP Preparation

Good morning,

This week you will take the EAP essay portion.  This is an important test for you.  This essay, along with some extra multiple choice questions on the CST, will work like a placement exam for college English if you are attending a CSU or a community college.

Today we will look at some sample questions and example essays. To figure out what an author is arguing it helps to ask the right questions.

Sample #1
What is this woman upset about?
What does she think about the issue?
What does she think other people think about it?
What is her solution?

Sample #2
What is Frank Trippett worried about?
Why is he worried about this?
What does he suggest is going to happen?

EAP Day

If you are reading this then either you are absent or it is already Wednesday. Today we are taking the EAP. If you are missing it I will have you make it up when you get back.
The Early Assessment Program (EAP) is a test taken by all juniors to assess their readiness for college level writing. The test consists of an essay portion (today) and some additional multiple choice questions on the statewide CST tests students will take in April.

Friday Update

Good morning,
Good work on Archetypes this week. Next week we will do some analysis comparing the Devil character in "The Devil and Tom Walker" with the left handed twin in "The World on the Turtle's Back" If you haven't read both those texts you need to catch up. They are both in your textbook and on-line.

Today we need to do an assessment essay. I will give you a prompt and you will write a response. This is the type of writing that is similar to the writing on the SAT, and the EAP and the CAHSEE. Other American Lit classes are also writing this assessment this week or next week and the teachers will be sharing your essays with each other. Your score also counts as part of your grade in this class.
